Baseball Recap: Avon Comes Up Short

Avon made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Westfield, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Orioles fell just short of the Shamrocks by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday. The Orioles have struggled against the Shamrocks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.

Avon got a good showing from Aiden Elmore, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Elmore gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April.

At the plate, Avon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Esslinger, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Avon's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Westfield, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.

While Avon had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
