The Woodside Wildcats will take on the Valley Christian Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Woodside is returning to their home field after beating Menlo-Atherton on theirs, despite the fact Menlo-Atherton has dominated at home this season. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 15-1 win on Tuesday. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Hannah Walker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Severin, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Caroline Ong, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Woodside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Menlo-Atherton only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, Valley Christian got themselves on the board against Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory on Wednesday, but Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory never followed suit. They blew past the Fightin' Irish 25-0. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Valley Christian got a massive performance out of Shyla Paredes, who fired off two home runs, eight RBI, and four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Leon, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.
Valley Christian is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Woodside, they pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Woodside might still be hurting after the 10-1 defeat they got from Valley Christian in their previous matchup back in March of 2019. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
