Softball Game Preview: Elkhart Lions vs. Penn Kingsmen

For the second straight game, Elkhart will face off against Penn. The Lions will welcome the Kingsmen at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Elkhart is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 17, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 10-3 to Penn. The Lions have struggled against the Kingsmen recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

For Penn's part, they got a great performance from Olivia Signorino as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Signorino has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Logan Rumble was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Zachary, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Penn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Penn pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Elkhart, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Elkhart hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Penn struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
