Basketball Recap: Menendez Takes a Loss

Menendez won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They lost 65-44 to the Matanzas Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 568th, while the Pirates are ranked 278th).

Matanzas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alexander Davis led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. Davis is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least 12 every time he's taken the court this season. La'Darien Baker was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Menendez has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Matanzas, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-8.

Menendez wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 57-43 defeat against Oakleaf on the 30th. As for Matanzas, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-49 win against Mandarin on the 30th.
