Baseball Recap: Torrey Pines Takes a Loss

Torrey Pines extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 11-15 in the process. They fell 3-0 to the Rancho Bernardo Broncos. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Broncos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 on Monday.

Jason Jutronich was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

As for Rancho Bernardo, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.

On Rancho Bernardo's side, not much got past Caden Dockan, who gave up just three hits to keep Torrey Pines off the board.

At the plate, Rancho Bernardo's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Zacarias, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Zacarias has snagged this season.

While Torrey Pines had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
