Preview: Thompson Tommies vs. Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers

The Thompson Tommies will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers at 8:00 p.m. on December 29th. Thompson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Des Lacs-Burlington likes a good challenge.

Thompson pushed their score all the way to 60 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 72-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grafton. While losing is never fun, Thompson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Grafton is ranked first).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Drew Overby, who scored 15 points along with three steals. The match was his third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Odenbach, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.

Des Lacs-Burlington has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 35 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 54-18 win over Trinity at home. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Des Lacs-Burlington has scored all year.

Thompson's loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Des Lacs-Burlington, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

Thompson came up short against Des Lacs-Burlington in their previous meeting back in March, falling 55-48. Can Thompson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
