Baseball Recap: Granville Comes Up Short

Granville extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 14-5 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Watkins Memorial Warriors. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Watkins Memorial, they pushed their record up to 10-8 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

For Watkins Memorial's part, Brayden Windnagel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, Watkins Memorial's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Trent Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Bradley Vincent also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Granville and Watkins Memorial should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Blue Aces will challenge Lakewood at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (34 vs. 139). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Granville 2.3, the Lancers 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Watkins Memorial (ranked 143rd) will meet Zanesville (ranked 349th) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
