Basketball Recap: Buchanan Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Buchanan, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 72-58 win over the Clovis West Golden Eagles on Friday. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 119th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the defeat, Clovis West had strong showings from Jace Kellogg, who posted 21 points and six rebounds, and Dj Stickman, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. Stickman's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jalen Sarden, who had six points.

Buchanan's victory bumped their record up to 18-3. As for Clovis West, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-12.

When Buchanan and Clovis West next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Buchanan will challenge Clovis North and their three-game winning streak at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Clovis West will try to stop Salesian College Preparatory's ten-game winning streak when the meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
