Softball Recap: Royal Highlanders vs. Moorpark Musketeers
Royal was the 7-0 winner over Moorpark when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Royal Highlanders fell just short of the Moorpark Musketeers by a score of 4-2 on Thursday. Royal has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mrdah Murali made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with a home run.
On Moorpark's side, Madison Finnerty made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Finnerty has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive pitching appearances. Finnerty was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Shae Anderson was incredible, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Nathalie Hernandez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with an RBI.
Royal's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Moorpark, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Royal will challenge Oak Park at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Royal is facing Oak Park at the right time seeing as Oak Park is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Moorpark, they will head out on the road to face off against Camarillo at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
