Baseball Recap: Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Justin-Siena, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 10-7 win over the Menlo-Atherton Bears. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Fightin' Irish as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

PJ Vigo looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory is 5-1 when Vigo allows one or fewer hits, but 4-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Johnny Nepomuceno and Evan Liu did most of the damage at the plate: Nepomuceno scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Liu scored a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Liu a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Quinn Middleton, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory's record is now 9-10. As for Menlo-Atherton, with the defeat, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-5.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory and Menlo-Atherton should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Fightin' Irish will challenge Lincoln at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (371 vs. 857). Meanwhile, Menlo-Atherton (ranked 103rd) will meet Capuchino (ranked 333rd) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
