Basketball Game Preview: Hidalgo Pirates vs. La Feria Lions

The Hidalgo Pirates are taking a road trip to face off against the La Feria Lions at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hidalgo has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.

Hidalgo will head into Friday's matchup hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 42) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Jubilee Brownsville, sneaking past 75-73. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since February 5, 2024.

Meanwhile, La Feria entered their tilt with Grulla on Friday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They enjoyed a cozy 53-34 win over the Gators. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 488th, while the Gators are ranked 1509th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hidalgo's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-9. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.7 points per game. As for La Feria, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

Things could have been worse for Hidalgo, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 51-35 loss to La Feria when the teams last played on January 10th. Can Hidalgo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
