Baseball Game Preview: Manchester Squires vs. Eastern Comets

The Manchester Squires will face off against the Eastern Comets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Manchester sitting on three straight wins and Eastern on 11.

Manchester is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Rochester 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Squires have posted against the Zebras since May 26, 2018.

Harper Sturtsman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dallas Martin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Reiss Gaerte, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Eastern beat Wabash 6-2 on Wednesday.

Manchester now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Eastern, their win bumped their record up to 25-5.

Manchester came up short against Eastern when the teams last played on May 1st, falling 16-13. Can the Squires avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
