Football Preview: McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers vs. Johnson County Trojans
Two dominant backs in Earnest McIntosh and Jeremiah Scott are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. After each having a week off, the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers and the Johnson County Trojans will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th.
McIntosh County Academy blew Portal out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Portal got their revenge. The Buccaneers fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 27-24. The Buccaneers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, Johnson County strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They breezed past Georgia Military College to the tune of 42-3. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 399th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
McIntosh County Academy better keep an eye on Nathan Turberville. He was instrumental in Johnson County's win, throwing for 136 yards and four touchdowns on perfect 6-for-6 passing, while also rushing for 47 yards. Turberville got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 50 yards.
Johnson County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 229 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 190 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Johnson County's record is now 10-0. As for McIntosh County Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. McIntosh County Academy has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 149.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Johnson County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 267.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
McIntosh County Academy came up short against Johnson County in their previous matchup back in November of 2018, falling 12-0. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
