Basketball Recap: Taven Leonard Key Part of Team Effort in Cherokees Win

Kendrick won the last time they faced Rutland and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Cherokees snuck past the Hurricanes with a 51-45 win. Those 51 points were actually the fewest the Cherokees have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kendrick to victory, but perhaps none more so than Taven Leonard, who posted eight points along with nine rebounds and three steals. That's the most steals Leonard has posted since back in January. Andrew Spivey was another key player, putting up ten points and five steals.

Kendrick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Kendrick's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Rutland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Kendrick didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-32 win against Pike County on the 5th. As for Rutland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 54-51 loss against Northeast on the 4th.
