Basketball Recap: Memorial Starts off Right with Win over Alief Hastings

Memorial had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They secured a 48-43 W over the Alief Hastings Bears. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Memorial found their leader in sophomore Jase Lane, who shot 71% from the field on his way to 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was William Kuersteiner, who posted six points along with nine steals and six rebounds.

Deondra Jones and Eric Spurlock certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Jones went 5-for-11 to rack up 14 points, while Spurlock scored eight points and three steals.

Memorial wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 48-38 loss against Randle on the 18th. As for Alief Hastings, they have also already played their next contest, a 72-50 defeat against Cypress Ridge on the 15th.
