Baseball Game Preview: Stagg Chargers vs. Providence Catholic Celtics

Stagg is 0-7 against Providence Catholic since May of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Chargers are taking a road trip to face off against the Celtics at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Stagg will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Lincoln-Way West, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Chargers came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 4-1 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chargers.

Meanwhile, Providence Catholic had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They never let Homewood-Flossmoor get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Celtics, who have now won 17 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Providence Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 25-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Stagg, their record is now 10-27.

Stagg might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Providence Catholic when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Chargers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
