Baseball Game Preview: Huntington Huntsmen vs. Unioto Shermans

The Huntington Huntsmen are taking a road trip to challenge the Unioto Shermans at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Huntington's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Unioto's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Huntington had taken Southeastern down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Huntsmen lost 7-1 to the Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Huntsmen have suffered against the Panthers since April 6, 2016.

Huntington saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Elliott, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Unioto got the win against Logan Elm on Tuesday by a conclusive 9-3. The Shermans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Jacob Renner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Callaway Ratliff was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Ethan Pucket was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Unioto is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Huntington, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Huntington skirted past Unioto 6-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Huntsmen repeat their success, or do the Shermans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
