Basketball Recap: Fort Mill Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

If Fort Mill was feeling good fresh off their 60-27 takedown of Catawba Ridge last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets took a hard 53-34 fall against the Clover Blue Eagles on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets have struggled against the Blue Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Fort Mill lost, don't look at Zoe Williams. Despite the final result, she went 5 of 6 on her way to 15 points in addition to five boards and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Williams a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Saylor Heberling, who posted nine points.

Leading Clover to victory were Julienne Chambliss and Olivia Lewter. Chambliss scored 11 points along with eight assists and seven steals, while Lewter went 5 for 10 en route to 10 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Lewter is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Georgia Smith, who put up seven points.

Fort Mill's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8. As for Clover, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 18-2.

Fort Mill is taking a road trip to challenge Rock Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rock Hill is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season. As for Clover, they will host Northwestern at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Clover's favor as the team sits on nine straight wins at home while Northwestern has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
