Basketball Recap: Vermilion Takes a Loss

Vermilion played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 77-30 loss at the hands of the Westlake Demons. The Sailors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-20.

Despite the loss, Vermilion still got an impressive performance from Brock Meyers, who posted eight points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Vermilion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westlake only pulled down four offensive boards.

Westlake got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Andrew Wallenhorst out in front who went 6 of 9 en route to 15 points. Wallenhorst also put up a block, which washis first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hayden Purdy, who went 7 for 9 on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds.

Vermilion dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Westlake, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vermilion will welcome Willard at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Vermilion is facing Willard at the right time seeing as Willard is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Westlake, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lakewood at 7:00 p.m. Westlake is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.5 points per game this season.
