Basketball Game Preview: Hay Springs Hawks vs. Hemingford Bobcats

Hay Springs hasn't had much luck against Hemingford recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hawks will head out to take on the Bobcats. Hemingford took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Hay Springs, who comes in off a win.

Hay Springs is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Banner County: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Hawks blew the Wildcats out of the water with a 61-6 final score. With the Hawks ahead 42-2 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Hay Springs found their leader in sophomore Hunter Theis, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and ten steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Theis has scored at least a third of the Hawks' points. Another player making a difference was Riley Johnson, who posted four points in addition to six steals and five rebounds.

Hay Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, Hemingford took a blow against Bridgeport on Friday, falling 69-32. The loss put an end to the Bobcats' undefeated start to the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Hay Springs and bumps their season record up to 2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 22 points in those games. As for Hemingford, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 2-1.

Hay Springs couldn't quite finish off Hemingford in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 and fell 56-54. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
