Softball Recap: Fort Mill Drops Highest Score of Season Against Rock Hill

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fort Mill). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rock Hill Bearcats a 16-0 shutout on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Elaina Hildebrand looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Elise Nordgren, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Moore, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Fort Mill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory (which was Fort Mill's third in a row) raised their record to 6-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Rock Hill, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.

Fort Mill and Rock Hill could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings. The Yellow Jackets (ranked 87th) will meet Indian Land (ranked 24th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Rock Hill will challenge Catawba Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (152 vs. 2).
