Football Recap: Plainview Finds Playoff Glory Versus Alma

It's playoff time, and Plainview had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Alma Cardinals 43-8 on Thursday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by 24 points or more this season.

Gage Walton produced another solid performance rushing for 209 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per carry. Those 209 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Kobe Maertins was another key player, rushing for 13 yards and one TD.

Plainview didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Braedon Kment, Walton, and Wyatt Schroth picked up one apiece. Walton has been hot, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last six times he's played. Kment got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The victory (which was Plainview's sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.7 points over those games. As for Alma, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-5.

Looking ahead, Plainview will challenge Thayer Central on Friday. The Pirates will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games. Alma does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
