The Weiser Wolverines will square off against the Melba Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Weiser has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while Melba will come in with three straight victories.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Weiser's offense. They lost 16-0 to Cole Valley Christian on Wednesday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Wolverines were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Melba). They put the hurt on Glenns Ferry with a sharp 19-1 win on Wednesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Mustangs with their most commanding win of the season.
Aden Arrington made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Arrington was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty Aggen, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Max Jones was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Melba kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glenns Ferry didn't got any.
Melba's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Weiser, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Weiser was able to grind out a solid win over Melba in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, winning 13-8. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
