Softball Recap: Port Allen Comes Up Short

Port Allen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 14-8 to the University Lab Cubs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pelicans of the 17-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Jerrica Cooper and Riley Sproles stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cooper scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances, while Sproles scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Olivia Rodney also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Port Allen's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for University Lab, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Port Allen will be playing in front of their home fans against Madison Prep Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Madison Prep Academy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12 runs per game on average), something Port Allen will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for University Lab, they will head out on the road to take on Parkview Baptist at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
