Softball Game Preview: Hoover Vikings vs. Boardman Spartans

Hoover is a perfect 4-0 against Boardman since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Vikings will venture away from home to square off against the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. Boardman took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Hoover, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Hoover turned things around against Marlington on Saturday. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Dukes.

Meanwhile, Boardman lost 9-3 to Gilmour Academy on Saturday.

Boardman saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lanie Joyce, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run. Another was Kate Thames, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Boardman's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-3. As for Hoover, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.

Hoover skirted past Boardman 4-3 in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
