Softball Recap: ITW David Speer Academy Gets the Win

ITW David Speer Academy posted their closest victory since May 6, 2024 on Saturday. They skirted past the Ridgewood Rebels 6-5. The Pride have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Rebels, too.

Sophia Hernandez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Janelise Cosme was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since April 1st. Brianna Robles was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.

ITW David Speer Academy's win bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Ridgewood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

ITW David Speer Academy and Ridgewood could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Pride (ranked 322nd) will meet Whitney Young (ranked 156th) at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Ridgewood will challenge Riverside-Brookfield at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (356 vs. 170).
