Recap: Mason Comets vs. Middletown Middies
The Mason Comets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season. They breezed by Middletown on the road to the tune of 63-36. Given Mason's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Middletown is ranked 444th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mason got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jazmyn Johnson out in front who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Madison Parrish, who scored 12 points along with six steals.
When it comes to explaining why Middletown lost, one person who can't be blamed is Leila Johnson. Despite the final result, she scored four points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamia Jones, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Mason's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 36.33 points. As for Middletown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mason will challenge Bellbrook at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Middletown will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Monroe at 4:30 p.m. on December 29th.
