Basketball Recap: Mancos Takes a Loss

Mancos was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 58-34 to the Dove Creek Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, with their most recent defeat being a 55-23 loss back in January.

Despite the defeat, Mancos saw an underclassman step up: freshman Tinsley Aspromonte almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards. The match was Aspromonte's third in a row with at least 21 points. Aurelia Garcia also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first rebound of the season.

Ralynn Hickman was her usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-7 from deep and dropping a double-double with 25 points and ten rebounds for Dove Creek. Hickman is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Hampton, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 15 boards.

Mancos' loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Dove Creek, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Mancos has already played their next contest, a 41-20 victory against Dolores on the 21st. As for Dove Creek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 0-0 win against Ouray on the 21st.
