Basketball Recap: Cody Redford's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Whidbey over Overlake

It was a Battle of the Birds when South Whidbey took on Overlake on Wednesday. The South Whidbey Falcons fell 69-60 to the Overlake Owls. The loss continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Owls: they've now lost six in a row.

South Whidbey lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cody Redford, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. The dominant performance gave Redford a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Robby Sullivan, who went 5 for 9 en route to 13 points.

South Whidbey's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Overlake, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

South Whidbey will challenge Eastside Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. South Whidbey is facing Eastside Prep at the right time seeing as Eastside Prep is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Overlake, they will face off against Bush at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Bush's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matches.
