Baseball Recap: La Jolla Country Day Takes a Loss

After flying high against Bishop on Wednesday, La Jolla Country Day came back down to earth. The Torreys fell just short of the Knights by a score of 7-5 on Thursday. The Torreys were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 13-2.

La Jolla Country Day got a good showing from Matthew Onaitis, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Onaitis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jackson Norum was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for La Jolla Country Day: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Ryder Tootell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

La Jolla Country Day's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Bishop's, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6-1 record this season.
