Football Preview: Regent Prep vs. Liberty Tigers
For the first time this season, Regent Prep will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out on the road to take on the Liberty Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Regent Prep lost 43-21 to Morrison on Friday. The loss put an end to Regent Prep's undefeated start to the season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Brody Smith, who threw for 334 yards and one touchdown, and also punched in a pair of scores on the ground. 159 of Smith's passing yards were hauled in by Freddy Calvani.
Meanwhile, Liberty made easy work of Morris two weeks ago and carried off a 33-7 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Regent Prep better keep an eye on Carson Reeder. He was instrumental in Liberty's win, picking up 91 receiving yards and one TD. That's the most receiving yards Reeder has posted since back in October of 2024.
Liberty didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off six passes before the game was over. Reeder led the group effort, picking up three of those interceptions all by himself. Brycen Grosso got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Having lost for the first time this season, Regent Prep fell to 2-1. As for Liberty, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
Regent Prep beat Liberty 48-37 when the teams last played back in September of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Regent Prep since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
