Recap: Sparta Trojans vs. Forsyth Panthers

The Sparta Trojans put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They secured a 42-36 W over Forsyth. Given Sparta's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Forsyth is ranked 156th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sparta got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacob Lafferty out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds. The match was Lafferty's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Leeanthoney Mayes, who scored 14 points.

Sparta pushed their record up to 8-0 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points per game. As for Forsyth, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-2.

Sparta will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Lafayette County at 4:15 p.m. on December 21st. Lafayette County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 627 points over their last nine matchups. As for Forsyth, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Lexington at 4:15 p.m. on December 22nd. Lexington knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Forsyth likes a good challenge.
