Basketball Recap: Mt. Whitney Pioneers vs. Porterville Panthers
Mt. Whitney was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a blow against the Porterville Panthers, falling 82-25. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1180th, while the Panthers are ranked 208th).
Landen Haynes was his usual excellent self, putting up 21 points for Porterville. Another player making a difference was Omar Ramirez, who posted 12 points.
Mt. Whitney's loss dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Porterville, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 16-6.
Mt. Whitney is taking a road trip to challenge Redwood at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Redwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Mt. Whitney likes a good challenge. As for Porterville, they will host Monache at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Porterville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
