Softball Recap: Norte Vista Sets Scoring Season-High Against Rubidoux

Norte Vista's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Rubidoux Falcons by a score of 12-8. The Braves' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Nicole Cline made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off 15 hits. Cline was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 5-for-5.

In other batting news, Angelina Mercado and Julisa MacIas did most of the damage at the plate: Mercado scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while MacIas got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. What's more, Mercado posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gianna Garcia, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Norte Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rubidoux only posted an OBP of .395.

Norte Vista's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4-1. As for Rubidoux, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

Norte Vista will challenge Bethel Christian at 3:30 p.m. on March 28th. Rubidoux will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Fontana at 3:15 p.m. on March 31st.
