Baseball Preview: New Caney Eagles vs. The Woodlands Highlanders
For the second straight game, New Caney will face off against The Woodlands. The Eagles will take on the Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
Things were looking good for New Caney after they put the first runs on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 8-5 to The Woodlands.
For The Woodlands' part, Caleb Barry-Smith looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Barry-Smith has posted since back in February.
At the plate, Cole Warren was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Tanner Farnsworth also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
The victory (which was The Woodlands' fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for New Caney, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14-1 record this season.
