While Helix didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Calexico Bulldogs by a score of 7-3 on Saturday. That's more bragging rights for the Highlanders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Clarissa Torres was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lillianna Benabdeljalil, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Helix and bumps their season record up to 6-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Calexico, they moved to 8-7 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Helix will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Mar Vista at 3:30 p.m. on the 18th. As for Calexico, they will face off against Palo Verde Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellow Jackets have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
