Baseball Recap: St. George's Dragons vs. Lawrence Academy Spartans
St. George had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it 13. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lawrence Academy Spartans. The Dragons were not able to make up for their loss to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
St. George's saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was TJ Broom, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
As for Lawrence Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.
On Lawrence Academy's side, John Paone tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Paone has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Charlie Beauregard, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Daniel Nuti also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. George's will host Roxbury Latin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Foxes will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Dragons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lawrence Academy, they will challenge Worcester Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans are facing the Hilltoppers at the right time seeing as the Hilltoppers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
