Preview: Nebraska City Pioneers vs. Auburn Bulldogs
The Nebraska City Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against the Auburn Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Nebraska City had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against Syracuse by a score of 36-28.
Meanwhile, Auburn had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Falls City 42-13 at home. With Auburn ahead 42-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Maverick Binder continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 136 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries. Binder is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Auburn also got a significant boost from Brant Gulizia, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 82 yards.
Nebraska City's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.8 points per game. Auburn has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first eight contests, giving them a 6-2 record.
Nebraska City was able to grind out a solid victory over Auburn when the teams last played back in October of 2022, winning 10-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Nebraska City since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
