Softball Recap: South Florence Sets Scoring Season-High Against Lakewood

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Florence). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lakewood Gators a 15-0 shutout on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Payton Perry made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Page White was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Blakely Blue was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

South Florence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

South Florence has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. Lakewood now has a losing record of 2-3.

Coming up, South Florence will venture away from home to take on Wilson at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wilson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Lakewood, they will welcome Lower Richland at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lakewood has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
