Basketball Recap: Gateway Christian Comes Up Short

After flying high against Floyd last Thursday, Gateway Christian came back down to earth. The Gateway Christian Warriors took a blow against the Melrose Buffaloes on Tuesday, falling 74-47. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Buffaloes recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Despite the defeat, Gateway Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Grady Munson went 11 for 27 on his way to 29 points and five steals. The game was Munson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Noah Gomez was another key player, putting up four points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Gateway Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Gateway Christian's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-5. As for Melrose, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-4.

Gateway Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 65-46 victory against Elida on the 30th. As for Melrose, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 76-26 win against Floyd on the 30th.
