Softball Recap: Howell's Run of Seven Straight Wins Now Over

Howell dropped their record down to 11-4 on Saturday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Gaylord Blue Devils, falling 10-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Highlanders of the 25-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Amelia Elsey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.

As for Gaylord, the win keeps they at an undefeated 4-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.

On Gaylord's side, Jenna Sircely spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits.

At the plate, Makayla Kozlowski was incredible, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Nora Bethuy also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Looking ahead, Howell will square off against Salem at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Gaylord, they will take on Cadillac at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The match will give the Blue Devils their first taste of in-conference action this season.
