Baseball Game Preview: Strongsville Mustangs vs. Mentor Cardinals

The Strongsville Mustangs will face off against the Mentor Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Strongsville sitting on four straight victories and Mentor on three.

Mentor's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Strongsville hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Mustangs never let Cleveland Heights get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won ten games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Mentor sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over North Royalton on Saturday.

Jacob Gunvelson looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brayden Bortnick was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Josh Wieland, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Strongsville's win bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Mentor, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.

Strongsville came out on top in a nail-biter against Mentor when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
