Recap: Wake Forest Cougars vs. Knightdale Knights
It was a good run, but the Wake Forest Cougars unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell to Knightdale 43-39. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Wake Forest came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Knightdale is ranked 205th).
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Audra Hillman, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Hillman is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Taylor McCartney was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Wake Forest struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Knightdale found their leader in underclassman Abigail Taylor, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Taylor has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrea Watkins, who scored ten points.
Wake Forest's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Knightdale, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wake Forest the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Wakefield at 6:15 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Wakefield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Monday. As for Knightdale, they will be playing at home against Heritage at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Heritage is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
