Basketball Recap: Camarillo Piles Up the Points Against Moorpark

Moorpark typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Camarillo proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Moorpark Musketeers, posting an 81-50 victory. The Scorpions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Camarillo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emerson Martin, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds. That's the most points Martin has posted since back in January of 2024. Daniela Rocha Betancourt was another key player, putting up 23 points and six assists.

Camarillo was working as a unit and finished the game with 27 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Moorpark saw an underclassman step up: freshman Maya Urteaga went 10 for 17 on her way to 26 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Olivas, who posted 13 points.

Camarillo is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 36.7 points. As for Moorpark, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-7.

Camarillo has already played their next match, a 68-40 win against St. Bonaventure on the 25th. As for Moorpark, they will head out on the road to take on Simi Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Moorpark is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season.
