Volleyball Recap: Nitro Wildcats vs. Capital Cougars

Nitro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Capital Cougars. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 2-0 to the Cougars when the teams met back in October of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Nitro sadly wound up on the wrong side. The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 14-25, 15-11.

Jaycee Mumpower paced Nitro's offense, picking up six kills. Mumpower got some help from Brynlee Ullum and her ten assists. Ullum was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Capital's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Riana Berkley, who had 12 digs. Berkley has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Nitro now has a losing record of 16-17. As for Capital, their victory bumped their record up to 13-23-4.

Nitro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Capital, they will challenge Parkersburg at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
