The Fairfax HomeSchool Hawks will venture away from home to take on the Our Lady of Good Counsel Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairfax HomeSchool will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
On Thursday, Fairfax HomeSchool made easy work of Trinity Christian and carried off an 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won 11 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Elizabeth Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madelyn Shaw, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Agape Burke was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Our Lady of Good Counsel ultimately got the result they hoped for two weeks ago. They had just enough and edged out Paul VI 13-12. With that win, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Grace Mackrell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Stone, who went 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs.
Our Lady of Good Counsel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Fairfax HomeSchool pushed their record up to 12-0 with the victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 16.3 runs this season. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-4.
Fairfax HomeSchool's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Hawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Our Lady of Good Counsel, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Fairfax HomeSchool continue to outrun the ball?
Fairfax HomeSchool might still be hurting after the 22-1 defeat they got from Our Lady of Good Counsel in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
