Geneva and Houston Academy are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2015, but likely not for long. The Geneva Panthers will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Houston Academy Raiders at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Geneva's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Daleville as Geneva made off with a 13-0 victory. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Warhawks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Haze Ammons made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Ammons was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Geneva got a big performance out of Judson Wise, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases Wise has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Rose, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Houston Academy came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Yellowjackets with a sharp 12-0 victory.
Houston Academy also got a great performance from Cooper Powell as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Powell also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Houston Academy is 4-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-8 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Houston Academy let Gabe Glover and Harrison Milanowski run wild. Glover went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one triple, while Milanowski scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Milanowski has become a key player for Houston Academy: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Whit Price was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Houston Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Houston Academy pushed their record up to 8-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Geneva, their victory bumped their record up to 8-10.
Geneva beat Houston Academy 11-6 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Does Geneva have another victory up their sleeve, or will Houston Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
