Recap: Awaken Christian Lions vs. Lake Mead Academy Eagles
The Awaken Christian Lions lost against the Lake Mead Academy Eagles back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Awaken Christian fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 43-41. Awaken Christian has not had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Awaken Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Phoenix Sharp. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 blocks. That was a full 51.2% of Awaken Christian's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Alahna Payne was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Lake Mead Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aliyah Harris, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Harris has scored at least a third of Lake Mead Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tenaya Brown, who scored nine points along with six steals.
Awaken Christian's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-8. As for Lake Mead Academy, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Awaken Christian's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on January 30th. Laughlin is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Lake Mead Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Guardians at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully GV Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 41 last Tuesday.
