Football Recap: Matthew Schindler and Mac Carlson Secure Win for Wausa/Osmond

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Wausa/Osmond's strategy against Hartington-Newcastle on Friday. Wausa/Osmond blew past Hartington-Newcastle 50-24. The result was nothing new for Wausa/Osmond, who have now won four matchups by 26 points or more so far this season.

Wausa/Osmond was led to victory by Mac Carlson and Matthew Schindler. Carlson rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, while Schindler rushed for 121 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 carries. Carlson's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 118 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wausa/Osmond was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 332 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 164 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.

Hartington-Newcastle lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Austin Sudbeck, who threw for 162 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 111 yards. Jason Heimes helped out on the ground, rushing for 80 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Wausa/Osmond pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.7 points on average over those games. As for Hartington-Newcastle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-2.

Meanwhile, Hartington-Newcastle will face off against rival Boyd County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Heimes and Ben Schmitz.
