Volleyball Recap: Mayfield Wildcats vs. Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Chardon, Mayfield was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings 2-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wildcats also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2023.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Mayfield who won the one that mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 12-25, 25-19.

Mayfield can attribute much of their success to Skyler Keptner, who had 11 digs and two aces. Keptner is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in the last three games she's played dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Villa Angela-St. Joseph still got an impressive performance from Cecelia Oriani, who had 21 digs.

The victory got Mayfield back to even at 8-8. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-4.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Bay the next time they take the court. Villa Angela-St. Joseph will head out to face Bay at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while Mayfield will play them later in the day, at 10:00 a.m.
